Welcome to the Ambition Lawrence Weston 'Our Bigger Story' website. This is part of the multi media evaluation of 15 Big Local areas in England. The website is an opportunity to follow what is changing in Lawrence Weston as a result of Big Local over a ten year period.

The aim of the website is to share the learning from everything that is happening in Lawrence Weston with other Big Local areas and highlight what works in communities with a wider audience of practitioners and policy makers.

    Responses from the mayor at the mayoral community conversation with residents that took place on the 7th March at Lawrence Weston Youth Centre.

    This film by Bristol Energy Cooperative, describes the development of a solar farm – a venture which gas been supported by Lawrence Weston Big Local. This is part of a wider green energy initiative in the area and the investment is expected to bring a social return for the residents of Lawrence Weston.

    In this film, residents talk about the changes Big Local is bringing about in Lawrence Weston in terms of green energy projects, influencing the Local Authority, developing internbships and the community shop and café. They also reflect on some of the Big Local challenges and their hopes for the future.

    This film was made during a community day on the local urban farm. In it projects talk about how they plan to make a difference for young people and impact on local environmental and housing issues. It also records the derelict site in the centre of Lawrence Weston which will be transformed into housing, a supermarket and community hub. Out Bigger Story will be following the development of these initiatives in the coming years.

    This short film is an animation which summarises The Neighbourhood Development Plan for Lawrence Weston, with a referendum on its future in February 2017. The Plan informed the development of Big Local actions on the estate

    At the time we started the plan a number of community facilities had either closed or were threatened with closure. Residents and local partners had become increasingly frustrated at the lack of joined up thinking at a neighbourhood level. Residents felt that nobody was looking at the estate as a whole or properly planning for its future. So... we took a leap of faith, and decided to do it ourselves!

    In 2012 Ambition Lawrence Weston was formed - a development trust designed to place residents at the heart of the redevelopment of their area. After several months of consultations with residents and community surveys, a special day was organised to both launch the trust and bring residents and policy-makers together. This film documents the community planning day and the aims of the new trust.
