Welcome to the Hanwell 'Our Bigger Story' website. This is part of the multi media evaluation of 15 Big Local areas in England. The website is an opportunity to follow what is changing in Hanwell as a result of Big Local over a ten year period.
The aim of the website is to share the learning from everything that is happening in Hanwell with other Big Local areas and highlight what works in communities with a wider audience of practitioners and policy makers.
This film, recorded at Hanwell Carnival in August 2016, partnership members and other stakeholders talk about the work of Hanwell Big Local in its support for Hanwell Community Centre Consortium in its bid to manage the Centre as well as training, employment and environmental initiatives, the influence Big Local has in the area and what they hope to achieve in the future.
Hanwell Big Local realised Issue 2 of their Newsletter in Summer 2016. It provided the community with the Projects that have run and their upcoming projects to be. It also gave the opportunity for Hanwell Big Local & Ease to outreach their services.
This was a very exciting time for Hanwell Big Local as they published their first issue of their newsletter WINTER 2015. They communicated the Newsletter through door to door services ensuring all residents of HBL as a community come together and get involved in the exciting opportunities Hanwell Big Locals has to offer.
HBL is excited to be supporting the development of a new bid to run Hanwell Community Centre (HCC). Hanwell Big Local participates in the research and meetings and is funding the initial costs of setting up the proposed Charitable Company, and other related projects. HCC is a community asset that sits in the heart of our Big Local area and is used by many residents and those from farther afield for social, leisure, sporting and other activities. The Hanwell Big Local plan outlines the community’s key priorities for action around four themes: improving the environment, employability and enterprise, environmental improvements and transport/accessibility.
A short film shot by young people on Copley Close, Cuckoo estate and Gurnell Grove, Hanwell, about the changes the community would like to see on their estate over the next 10 years. As part of the development some community facilities are to be demolished and relocated to an improved Hanwell Community Centre with space and potential for new uses and facilities. The film offers a wide range of ideas which are hopefully just the beginning of the discussion.
The Hanwell Community Profile describes the population living in the area and the needs identified with local residents. It explores the strengths of the area, major changes (including Crossrail and housing regeneration) and the key challenges facing the communities of Hanwell. This document informed the final Hanwell Big Local Plan and priorities (July 2014).
