Angela Ellis Paine

RESEARCHER

Angela is Lecturer in Voluntary Sector Management at Bayes Business School, City University of London. She has over 25 years of experience in research on voluntary action. Angela’s research includes the ongoing Our Bigger Story research for Local Trust, and a study of how communities responded to COVID-19 which included a number of Big Local areas as case studies. Other recent research includes a national study exploring voluntary sector and health and care commissioning relationships; a long-term study of change in voluntary action; and a study exploring the role of voluntary action in social welfare was discussed during key transformational moments in the 1940s and 2010s. Prior to her current role, Angela was a Research Fellow at the Third Sector Research Centre, University of Birmingham, and previously Director of the Institute for Volunteering Research at Volunteering England. Her PhD explored power and participation in rural community development.
