Welcome to the Ambition Lawrence Weston 'Our Bigger Story' website. This is part of the multi media evaluation of 15 Big Local areas in England. The website is an opportunity to follow what is changing in Lawrence Weston as a result of Big Local over a ten year period.
The aim of the website is to share the learning from everything that is happening in Lawrence Weston with other Big Local areas and highlight what works in communities with a wider audience of practitioners and policy makers.
Ambition Lawrence Weston is celebrating the news that they've been awarded planning permission for the largest wind turbine in England. The tallest structure to be built in Bristol, the wind turbine is proof that renewable energy can be owned by communities, not just by big business. Once installed the turbine will produce enough low carbon electricity to power 3,500 homes and make CO2 savings of 1,965 tons every year.
We are super excited to announce that we are restarting L'Dub BMXercise on Friday 11th September 2020
Local people are at the heart of the new project, which will support community-led climate action, putting them in the driving seat and empowering them to respond to climate change in their communities. The funding from the National Lottery's Climate Action Fund will enable six organisations across Bristol " Ambition Lawrence Weston, ACH, Bristol Disability Equality Forum, Heart of BS13, Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust, and Eastside Community Trust (formerly Up Our Street) " to play a leading role in shaping Bristol's transition to a low carbon and climate resilient city. This project will be supported by three lead programme partners " Bristol Green Capital Partnership, who led the funding bid; Centre for Sustainable Energy; and Bristol City Council.

Here is our final lockdown project!! it will be attached to some wire fencing outside of ambition Lawrence Weston "youth Center" this week,this board has been designed to mark the end of an era for our children "covid kids".please get involved and decorate a padlock to symbolise there time during lockdown which can then be attached to the wire fencing in front of the board,weather this be grief,a friendship or a new way of learning,or for a key worker who fought the fight on the frontline the idea is for them to decorate a padlock that shows they "WHERE HERE" they lived the covid-19,they survived and they came out of it stronger than they were before,no one needs to know what there padlock will represent,and it will be something to look back on in years to come and remember they were part of the worlds pandemic!! This could also be a family activity to symbolise how your family adapted some For the better some for the worse....nail varnish is a good way to go when it comes to painting or decorating your padlock or some kind of enamel paint that can be mixed with glitter to add some sparkle,let's get creative and celebrate the future and mark our past! Please feel free to post pics of your padlocks on here and keep our communities connected.you don't have to live in Lawrence Weston to take part anyone can get involved

Wow what a day!!! Got our boxes out to some lovely people today,had the Mayor of Bristol arrive to thank us personally for our work with lots of goodies in hand to support our emergency food parcels and had some great conversation about things that are surrounding us as communities and potential things to come,was a lovely surprise so thank you Mark Pepper for organising it...#staysafe #sharingiscaring
In June 2019 Our Bigger Story hosted a 2 day event for all the case study areas. During this time, each of the OBS areas mapped their journey. Here are a few photos.
Lawrence Weston lack safe social spaces for people to come together and socialise. The Big Local supported the local Baptist Church to refurbish and open The Cafe on The Cross.
This event was ran by a residents to help showcase local arts and works coming from residents. This was to promote Big Local and give an awareness to the general public. People and students from local schools showcased their work.
Community farm event activities included all of the farms usual activities, animal petting, wild woods walk and talks, bush craft. We also had fair ride/carousel, face painting arts and crafts, etc.
We carried out surveys around informing the Community Plan, with activities around sport, music, bmx'ing, skateboarding etc. We also had a world food topic where different nationalities living in LW cooked and shared national foods.
