Welcome to the Grassland Hasmoor 'Our Bigger Story' website. This is part of the multi media evaluation of 15 Big Local areas in England. The website is an opportunity to follow what is changing in Grassland Hasmoor as a result of Big Local over a ten year period.
The aim of the website is to share the learning from everything that is happening in Grassland Hasmoor with other Big Local areas and highlight what works in communities with a wider audience of practitioners and policy makers.

GHBL is supporting families through the pandemic with food bags. They have done this during the school holidays by providing bags with everything you need to make a meal.

Fairs and events may be cancelled and lights switched on with no audience but GHBL will still create the magic! They are encouraging as many people as possible to put Christmas lights up in their windows through a local competition.

Grassland Hasmoor Big Local ensured that people could celebrate VE Day despite the lockdown. Everyone was encouraged to take afternoon tea in their own front garden.

GHBL Open Forum took place on Saturday 14th March and gave local residents of Grassmoor and Hasland a chance to meet their local Partnership Board members, speak to the various working groups about the projects they are involved in and learn about the success stories of 2019-2020 including an amazing £491,698.15 additional funding secured for the area.

Following our successful Photographic Competition & Event in 2018 with the theme My Hasland/My Grassmoor, we decided to run another for 2019! The Theme- Grassland Hasmoor through the seasons. We had 3 category groups: - under 11’s, secondary age and adults. We had 40+ entries but due to Covid 19 Restrictions could not have award ceremony as planned. Following the competition the best entries were collated into a Calendar that winners receive free and residents can purchase at a donation. check it out! We have already opened the gates for Photo Comp 2020! with the Theme- Covid in Colour

This is a film of Grassland Hasmoor Big Local's Open Forum in March 2019. The Open Forum includes elections to the partnership - GHBL has a healthy turnover of residents and the film provides a opportunity to hear why those seeking election wish to be involved. The Open Forum also includes a participatory grants process and reports on how money has been used to benefit residents over the previous year.
GHBL started creating yearbooks to archive and showcase projects in a more accessible way. The year books stay in the reception area at one of our Hub's and make for brilliant reading whilst waiting! This has also proved a handy tool for measuring change through the years and assisted in the reflection on positive changes we have achieved & sustained!
This ‘Time for a Change’ event brought together residents, voluntary and community organisations and local authority officers and members who have some connection with Grassland Hasmoor Big Local. This is a summary of the discussions around: • what is changing in Grassmoor and Hasland, • the extent to which Grassland Hasmore Big Local is contributing to making a difference in the area, • how residents can drive change in their communities and the implications of this for future policy and practice. The Third Sector Research Centre at the University of Birmingham is carrying out a longitudinal evaluation of the Big Local programme. Grassland Hasmoor is one of fifteen Big Local areas that volunteered to be a case study. The ‘Our Bigger Story’ evaluation uses a range of media to record progress and learning; this can be viewed at ourbiggerstory.com
The Open Forum is an annual event where new partnership members are elected. In this film, people at the event share what they know about GHBL, the kinds of things going on in the area, and why some of them wanted to get more involved.
Grassland Hasmoor Big Local has supported this Men in Sheds project. This film tells the story of how it began and why, and the importance of delivering projects that people want.
In February 2018 Grassland Hasmoor Big Local launched its second community profile of Grassmoor and Hasland, North Derbyshire. In addition to updating local demographic information the profile outlines Big Local's progress to date and summarises feedback from residents on their future aspirations. The forward plan is presented under two themes - PEOPLE ( children and young people, working families and senior citizens) and PLACES (green and open spaces, living environment and community facilities).
Each year, GHBL produces a photo-book which illustrate its activities and how it is contributing to making the area an even better place to live. This is the Year Book for 2017.
A film showing the Pit Stop Diner which provides a meal made from surplus food for the local community. The Big Local chair, local residents and partner agencies, talk about how Big Local is making a difference. People in the film highlight how residents are making change and their long term strategy to engage local communities and change mindsets and local authority ways of working.
This film shows how residents have responded to a need to help people remain active through partnering with the local authority to create a petanque court - a relatively low maintenance sport. Already, the club has a member waiting list.

Community Cinema brings the love of film to the heart of the community. GHBL invited families to enjoy a film together, in a warm, friendly environment. This event was sponsored by GHBL in partnership with Grassmoor Community Centre.
On 24/9/2016,Grassmoor Community Centre opened it's doors to GHBL's 1st Super Kitchen - the Pit Stop Diner. 75 residents of both communities came together to share a home cooked, low-cost meal, followed by art & crafts and the Community Cinema.
Members of Grassland Hasmoor Big Local partnership discuss how they have identified needs in their area, made a difference to local needs and are working to make the villages of Grassland and Hasmoor even better places to live.
During the summer holiday 2016 Grassland Hasmoor Big Local sponsored picnics and activities in Barns Park, Grassmoor and Eastwood Park, Hasland. The events took place on two days of each of a five weeks period in both parks, a total of 20 days.
Hasland Gala photos, Eastwood Park Sunday 12th June. Gate counters registered over 4000 visitors on two of the five entrances. The Mayor and Mayoress attended the Gala and opened the petanque piste. GHBL was promoted throughout the day.
Grassmoor Funday- sponsored by Big Local ensuring activities are free on the day such as face-painting, climbing walls, bouncy castles and much much more. GHBL Partnered up with local organisations to provide an event that was educational, inspiring and
Mill Lane Allotments, Grassmoor, held their annual Open Day on Saturday 6th August. The event was supported by various local charity groups and GHBL. Mill Lane Allotments hosted GHBL to create the setting for community engagement.
Grassland Hasmoor Big Local volunteers were much in evidence from set up to take down and throughout the day our volunteers were out and about flying the flag for Big Local. Lots of people visited the big red tent to find out more about Big Local.
In this film members of the Grassland and Hasmoor Green and Open Spaces Working Group talk about their plans for environmental improvements in the Grassland and Hasmoor Big Local area. They talk also about using environmental strategies.
The Grassland Hasmoor Big Local Green and Open Spaces group shows what can be achieved though local passion for the area, some voluntary effort and building a relationship with decision makers.

GHBL had a community focus in Grassmoor, we needed a similar facility in Hasland. We signed the lease on 3rd August. Unit 2 Penmore Business Park needed renovation and furnishing. Ribbon was cut by GHBL Chairman, Steven Wright.
Grassland Hasmoor Big Local needed a focus / a meeting point in Hasland. Our Grassmoor base is the Community Centre, Hasland did not have an obvious comparable facility. By October 2015 we had found, acquired, cleaned and furnished The Hasland Hub.
Two Refresher Events were held to re engage the community in GHBL. Both were held in the evening to enable working people to attend. This podcast explains what happened.
Grassland Hasmoor Big Local project took a stand at the Grassmoor Funday. The Funday attracts hundreds of residents from Grassmoor and surrounding villages. Many of the visitors came to the Grassland Hasmoor big red tent to find out about the Big Local

Grassland Hasmoor “Lift Off” 9th May 2015. The Lift Off event celebrated being awarded £1 000 000. Grassland Hasmoor, Chairman, Stephen Wright, welcomed 20+ volunteers and members of the public.
Grassland Hasmoor Big Local established working group, Green and Open Spaces, in action in 2015 improving the accessibility of footpaths joining together the Grassmoor and Hasland areas.
This event was held at Grassmoor Community Centre. The event aimed to enthuse the community and grow the number of residents engaged in the working groups. These working groups were created to deliver the local plan.
